Feng-shui: Where?
Feng-shui starts in your own home. This is where you spend most of your time - sleeping and eating, in company with your family and friends. This is also the place where you have most influence. You may have to adapt yourself to the conditions in your work place, but at home you are the boss. There it is up to you to arrange things so that your family can enjoy good feng-shui.
If possible, you should consult a feng-shui master before you rent or buy a house. The location and appearance of the building - even the materials it is made of - may be decisive of how the qi-energy flows through it, and this again will influence the way you feel. Remember that the longer you live in a certain house, the more your life will be influenced by it.
Some houses instantly seem right. Unconsciously almost everybody can feel it. In such cases a feng-shui master will only confirm and state the reasons for something that we all know: a house or a flat with good design - one that is comfortable and functional - is usually one with good feng-shui. Primarily, this is attributable to the location of a house, but it can also result from a combination of space and interior, lighting and colors, the furnishing and the artistic decorations in each room.
Still, most houses have flaws which should be corrected - "dead corners" or places which lack qi (energy), rooms with sha qi (bad energy) which are unsuitable both for sleeping and working. Dead corners usually can be made alive by the use of art, and qi, whether it is too strong or too weak, can also be attended to. If a certain room has too much qi, it is probably unsuitable as a bedroom, but the energy could be an advantage when used for working. Feng-shui is the knowledge of how to exploit these effects and how flaws in each room can be corrected.
Your place of work
Many people are not able to decide what kind of room they shall work in, the lighting they shall have in their office, or even how their desk should be placed in relation to the windows and the entrance of the room. Nevertheless, these matters are decisive of their ability to work steadily and well and make success in their career. There are for instance as many as 64 possible ways to place a desk and a chair, and each of them offers different combinations of qi (energy). Which position you should adopt in your office depends partly of the shape and the direction of the room, partly of what your work responsibility is, and partly of what goals you have set for yourself in your career.
Real-estate agents are known to say that "location is everything,". This is a fact which every feng-shui master can confirm. To choose the right address is at least the first step on the way to a success, and some addresses may be suitable for almost any kind of business.
Certain operations will however thrive in certain types of buildings or locations. An address which may be excellent for a lawyer, may be unsuitable for an advertising agency. But even premises that seem basically unfit for certain businesses, can be adapted with the use of furniture and colors, by mounting of mirrors on certain walls and paintings on other walls etc.
