Feng-shui: Why?
We are easily influenced by environments that are balanced and harmonious. When our friends want to meet us in an elegant restaurant, it is not only in order to eat well: the interior in such establishments - the wall colours, the lighting, the carefully arranged decor - candle lights or flowers on the table - everything contribute to the welcoming aura that allows people to feel good about themselves and their companions. In such surroundings couples celebrate special occasions or pursue a courtship, while businessmen come to an agreement.
The environments in our home could be just as stimulating. If you often entertain guests, you probably want to have a living room which is located on the south side of the building, a side which usually is distinguished by strong qi (energy). This part of a building has more yang, particularly if the sunlight is allowed to flow directly into the room. Should it be too difficult, too expensive or simply impossible to locate the living room to this side of the house, you may want to increase the energy in your present living room by using certain colours, paintings, mirrors, spotlights etc.
On the other hand, you may primarily want to relax when you are at home. I that case you could decide using the north side of the house as a living room, even though this part of a building usually is better for sleeping. But it is also possible to reduce the energy in a room by using colours that are light and cold and select furniture which is plain and minimalistic.
If you have an office in your home, the best location will usually be on the east side of the house.
Progress and prosperity
By fitting up the office so that it increases your productivity and efficiency, you stand a better chance of reaching the goals you have set for yourself. Everything in your office and everything on your desk should work for you, not against you. Place your desk so that you face the door and have as much of the room in view as possible.
In a large company where several employees share the same office, it is important that the colleagues don’t have their desks facing one another directly. Moreover, when there are many desks in one office, the person seated farthest from the entrance of the room must be the one with the most power. The boss should have a commanding view of the room and be able to control others, while at the same time not be distracted by the minutiae of daily business. It is an advantage for everybody in the company that the leader does not get involved in details which interfere with strategic issues and long term planning in order to make the company successful.
